Solventless extracts are my jam and it’s always special when a brand shares their live rosin for review. This review covers 22Red’s Banana OG, Cara Cara, and Zack’s Cake #19 live rosins.

About 22Red

You can find System of a Down’s Shavo Odadjian’s brand, 22Red, in Arizona, Nevada, and California adult-use markets. When it comes to Arizona, 22Red has its own indoor cultivation facility chock full of proprietary and unique genetics collected from around the world. Shavo has done a great job of diversifying his brand from other celebrity brands in the space. It’s a crazy concept to some, but authenticity does actually go a long way.

All three samples of the 22Red live rosin were top-notch product. I’ve been known to be somewhat picky, and to some, rather snobbish when it comes to my solventless extracts.

There is a saying in the extraction world: “Fire in, fire out.” In other words, you must have quality input material to get a quality finished product. In layman's terms, you can’t polish turds! Although I haven’t been to their grow (yet 😊), you could feel the love the growers and extractors put into making the rosin.

The Color and the Nose

The Cara Cara was pale orange to dark cream in color with a light, sweet floral note upfront followed by a lingering, nice tropical fruity endnote.

Zach’s Cake #19 took the literal cake for me out of the trio. Light, vivid orange, moist and rich with terpenes. Zach’s Cake was bursting with a cakey sweetness which ended in a sweet citrusy and gassy masterpiece with a clean cake flavor lingering throughout the pallet.

Consuming 22Red’s Live Rosin

If you are able to snag a jar of 22Red Live Rosin solventless extracts, I would highly recommend doing so. Each variety I was able to try left me nicely medicated without experiencing couchlock. Settling behind the eyeballs, these solventless concentrates provide a full-body experience. My favorite was the Zach’s Cake #19.

I consumed the rosin either through my Ispire dab rig as well or through infusing the rosin into a few hand-rolled doughnut hash holes. My tolerance is above average, so titrate appropriately!
